Enquire About Selling Raw GoldWhat Is Raw Gold?
Raw gold encompasses any gold that has not yet been refined to investment-grade purity (999 or 9999 fine). This includes dore bars from mine sites, alluvial or placer gold nuggets and dust recovered by artisanal miners, and amalgamated or gravity-concentrated gold from small-scale processing operations.
Raw gold must go through a refinery before it can be traded on international markets at full spot price. The refinery tests the material (assay), refines it to investment grade, and either sells it or returns refined bars to the supplier. Tranche facilitates the connection between raw gold producers and refineries or buyers who purchase raw material directly.
Our Process for Raw Gold Sellers
Contact us with details of your material: origin country, approximate quantity (in kilograms), estimated gold content if known, and your export documentation status. Our team will advise on the best pathway — whether that is a direct sale to one of our buyer mandates or a refinery introduction with escrow-backed settlement.
We do not charge upfront fees to sellers. Our facilitation fee is agreed as part of the transaction structure and is transparent to all parties.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What forms of raw gold do buyers accept?
- Buyers and refineries accept dore bars, alluvial gold (placer gold in nugget or dust form), amalgamated gold, and unrefined cast bars. Each form has different logistics and assay requirements.
- How is raw gold priced differently from refined gold?
- Raw gold is priced based on its actual gold content as determined by fire assay or other accredited methods. A refining charge is deducted to account for the cost of bringing the material to investment grade. The net price to the seller is typically 92–98% of spot value depending on purity and form.
- Is it legal to export raw gold from African countries?
- Requirements vary by country. Most require an export permit from the relevant minerals authority, a purity or assay certificate, and compliance with anti-money laundering documentation. Tranche requires full legal export compliance as a condition of facilitating any transaction.
- How do I know the buyer is legitimate?
- Tranche works only with verified institutional buyers who have gone through our due diligence process. We also use escrow: the buyer deposits funds before the seller ships, so the seller is protected.
