Enquire About Diamond EscrowThe diamond market is uniquely susceptible to counterparty risk. Unlike gold — where any bar of the same purity is interchangeable — each diamond is a unique stone with specific characteristics that can only be verified by a qualified gemologist with the original laboratory certificate in hand. This creates asymmetric risk in private transactions: buyers cannot safely send payment before seeing the stone; sellers cannot safely deliver the stone before receiving payment.
Tranche's diamond escrow service resolves this by acting as a trusted independent intermediary. The buyer deposits funds into a segregated escrow account. The seller delivers the certified stone along with its GIA, IGI, or HRD report. An accredited gemologist — nominated by the buyer or arranged by Tranche — verifies that the stone physically matches the certification in all respects: carat weight, colour grade, clarity grade, cut grade, and any additional characteristics noted on the report. Only upon successful verification are funds released to the seller and the stone released to the buyer.
This process is standard practice for institutional diamond transactions at major auction houses and in regulated dealer environments. Tranche brings this level of settlement integrity to private HNWI transactions across Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai, and other key markets. Frequently Asked Questions
- How does diamond escrow work?
- In a Tranche-facilitated diamond escrow, the buyer deposits funds into a designated escrow account. The seller delivers the certified stone (with GIA/IGI/HRD report). An independent gemologist verifies the stone matches the certification. Upon confirmation, funds are released to the seller. Both parties are protected throughout.
- Why use escrow for diamond transactions?
- Diamond transactions between private parties carry substantial counterparty risk — buyers risk paying for a stone that is misrepresented or non-existent; sellers risk delivering a stone before payment is secured. Escrow eliminates both risks by holding funds independently until all conditions are satisfied.
- What diamonds can be transacted through Tranche escrow?
- Tranche facilitates escrow for GIA, IGI, and HRD certified diamonds — loose stones, certified jewellery with significant centre stones, and fancy colour diamonds. Minimum transaction value applies; contact our concierge for current thresholds.
- Who verifies the diamond during escrow?
- An independent, accredited gemologist (GIA Graduate Gemologist or equivalent) verifies the stone against the certification report. The buyer may nominate their own gemologist, or Tranche can arrange verification. The stone does not leave escrow custody until verification is complete.
- In which jurisdictions does Tranche offer diamond escrow?
- Tranche facilitates diamond escrow transactions in Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai, and other HNWI-active jurisdictions. Contact our concierge to confirm availability for your specific transaction.
